The Lover After Me Disclaimer: No, I do NOT own Gundam Wing, or this song. Bandai, Sunrise, and Sotsu Agency copyrighted GW, and "The Lover After Me" belongs to my favorite non-J-pop group, Savage Garden. ^.^ Please don't flame me too much, this *is* the first thing I've ever written that was NOT humorous...and I think I'm *really* terrible when it comes to any kind of 'love' stuff. Well, onto the story! Hehe... :) = Lyrics, ok? :) Note: Yeah, here...Duo and Heero are/were gay, so live with it, ok? ------------------------------------------------- A.C. 202 'The big day,' Duo thought as he opened another bottle of Bacardi Rum. 'The day the one I love marries the Queen of the World.' The memory of that fateful day Heero told him it was over was still fresh in his memory, and it still hurt like hell... Duo drank some more of the rum, and tried hard to forget about Heero. 'He's getting married, and he told you already that he doesn't have any feelings for you anymore.' But, somewhere in Shinigami's subconscience, he couldn't accept that, and his thoughts continued to drift back to Heero, and the day the world as Duo knew it ended. ***Flashback, 7 months Earlier*** "What do you mean, you don't love me anymore?" Duo asked, hoping that Heero could NOT be serious about what he just said. The 'Perfect Soldier' stared at the braided American, his eyes showing a little bit of remorse for having, in a way, playing with Duo's emotions. "I don't love you, Duo...I never have," he replied in a slightly shaky voice, something uncharacteristic for Heero. "Then...who?" Duo asked, even though he already knew the answer. 'Please, please, don't let it be...' "Relena," was Heero's reply as he walked out the door of the apartment the former Gundam pilots shared. Duo fell to his knees, tears already falling from his bluish- purple eyes. ***Seven Months Later...*** "Heero-chan...I still love you," whispered Duo as the TV began showing Heero and Relena's wedding live. ***Walking around on L2*** Duo couldn't watch the wedding, it was too heartbreaking. He walked around, passing by places he and Heero had went to when they were together. Each place or building brought back happy memories; memories that made Duo want to die from sadness. One of the parks he walked into made him remember their 'anniversary'... ***Flashback*** "Heero-chan, I didn't think you would have remembered today," Duo said as Heero handed him a present. The other boy smirked at his lover. "Why would I forget something like this? Even though I don't show it much, Duo, I love you," Heero replied as he kissed the shocked American while he tried to open his present. ***Present*** "Funny, I still have that gift too, Heero," Duo said as held the gold ring in his hands. It had been the only visible sign of their relationship. Heero had given his ring to Relena to use as one of their wedding bands. At the thought of *that*, Duo became disgusted and nearly threw his ring into the fountain. "Why *HER*, Heero?" Duo asked no one in particular as tears formed yet again. "What made her so special? What about what WE had?" Duo headed back to the apartment. By now, the broadcast of the Yuy/Peacecraft wedding was over, and he was sure he could get *some* sleep. 'There is no such thing as love,' thought Duo as he swiped his security card to open the gates to the apartment complex. 'I guess this is how Hilde felt when I told her about me and Heero.' 'Does Heero really think he's done something good for me by marrying Relena? Can't he understand how miserable I am without him?' Duo wondered as he rode the elevator to get to the floor of his apartment. 'Instead of making me happy, he's made me want to kill myself...' "This 'peaceful' life, without you, Heero, it's not worth it," Duo muttered to himself after he finished the bottle of rum. He took out a small packet with white powder inside of it. It was illegal to have crack on Earth, but the law wasn't as strickly enforced out on the colonies. "This should help me forget about you," Shinigami whispered as he began snorting the powder. ***Flashback*** Duo looks out the window in his room. "It's not the same around here anymore, Heero," he said as he turned out the lights and climbed into the bed, where it seemed too big and empty. ***Present Day*** "Gee, I wonder what you're doing right now, Heero," Duo said sarcastically. "That's right! You're busy banging Miss 'Queen of The World' and screaming her name..." ***Four months earlier*** "Only three months have passed since you left me, Heero," Duo said as he wrote it in his journal. "It's hard to believe it's only been *that* long." To him, it seemed like an eternity had passed. "Please change your mind about the wedding, Heero-chan. I know you still love me..." ***Present Day*** The next morning, Duo woke up, and went into the now empty room of the apartment. It had been where Heero was during the day, busy typing away at his laptop, most likely trying to hack into a computer or something. "Heero, it still feels like you're here, with me," Duo said with a sigh. 'Why can't I just accept it? He just got married yesterday, and it's been seven months since I've even *seen* him, and I don't mean in pictures.' Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Duo left the hallway to go answer it and saw Hilde. "Duo..." Hilde said, but was cutoff by Duo's hug. "I came to check on you. Are you ok?" "No," replied Duo. "Want to talk about it?" Hilde asked Duo. Duo nodded, and both of them sat down on the couch. Duo told Hilde everything that happened over the past seven months. When he was finished, he said, "I just can't move on, Hilde. How did you do it when we broke up?" "I didn't, that's why I came over here, to make sure you were ok," she replied, tears starting to build in her eyes. "Go ahead and cry, Duo, if it helps." Duo did, and Hilde comforted him. "Do you think I'll ever get over him, Hilde?" Duo asked the German girl. She nodded. "Hai, Duo...you will...one day..." -------------------------------------------------------- Ok, I know...that's the *worst* songfic you've ever read in your life. No need to lie, just tell me in the review how much it blew, ok? :) Now you guys see why I choose to write humor instead of romance/songfics. One more thing, and then you can go! (Hehe...) I'm working a page, and I was wondering if any of you are willing to let me post some of your fics on it! If I can, please let me know by either telling me in the review or e-mailing me at wingnut@vauss.com. Thanks a lot! :)
